Oxygen sensors and transmitters provide measurement of dissolved oxygen (DO), with transmitter outputs commonly presented as oxygen partial pressure, oxygen concentration, or percent saturation depending on the operational objective. Probe designs support installation in open basins/channels as well as in closed pipes and tanks.

For operations, DO is a high-leverage measurement in water and bioprocessing. In wastewater aeration, DO feedback strongly impacts blower energy and biological stability; in fermentation and other biological processes, it protects yield and quality by maintaining intended conditions. In utility systems, oxygen measurement supports corrosion control by detecting oxygen ingress and validating oxygen-management strategies.

Modern transmitter platforms also contribute to maintainability by pairing measurement with diagnostics and flexible configuration. Presenting DO in the form most relevant to the control target (partial pressure, concentration, or saturation) reduces conversion errors and helps operations align alarms and setpoints to process reality.

Typical applications include aeration basins and oxidation ditches, surface-water and process water monitoring, and industrial loops where oxygen is either a critical reactant or an unwanted contaminant. The ability to deploy probes across basins, pipes, and tanks simplifies standardization when plants have mixed installation environments.

Successful specifications start with defining the measurement basis, installation geometry, and maintenance access. Provide stable flow at the sensor, plan for cleaning where biofouling is expected, and ensure the transmitter’s communication and alarm strategy fits site standards. Done well, DO becomes a cornerstone signal for both energy optimization and process assurance.
